Sylwia Spurek nominated as Warsaw Woman of the Year!
Voting for the Warsaw Woman of the Year 2024 has begun! Until 7 November, you can cast your vote for one of the wonderful candidates, among whom is Dr. Sylwia Spurek, a resident of Warsaw since 2002! Sylwia Spurek is a feminist, legislator, lawyer, former Deputy Ombudperson, Member of the European Parliament 2019-2024, who has been changing the world for the better since the beginning of her career! Sylwia Spurek lawyer, legal advisor, legislator. Feminist committed to women’s human rights, in particular – systemic changes to counter violence against women. Author of the first Polish draft law on counteracting domestic violence. Coordinated the government’s ratification process of the Council of Europe’s Anti-Bullying Convention. She was the Deputy Ombudsman and a Member of the European Parliament. The only one from Poland to be the rapporteur and negotiator of the text of the first EU directive on combating violence against women, in which regulations on gender-based cyberbullying were included on her initiative. A vegan, she is also active for the rights of so-called farmed animals and co-founder of the Green REV Institute! Throughout her career, Sylwia Spurek has repeatedly stressed the need for systemic legal changes to counter violence against women. She is the author of the first Polish draft law on the prevention of domestic violence and served as rapporteur for the EU directive on the prevention of violence against women and domestic violence. She is the author of the draft resolution Free from Farms and the White Paper Breeding Stench, Blood and Tears.
