The Green REV Institute together with other NGOs called on the decision-making side of the Netherlands not to impose an increased tax for alternatives to animal milk. The call was sent to Parliament (Tweede Kamer der Staten-Generaal), the Finance Committee, the Health, Welfare and Sport Committee and the Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality Committee. The proposed increase in consumer tax would cover beverages in the non-alcoholic category, including plant-based milk alternatives of animal origin excluding soya beverage.

In the frame of the letter, we point out that the imposition of such a tax is contrary to sustainability efforts. Increasing the tax for plant-based alternatives to animal milk would result in a tax increase of 195%. Animal milk as well as soya drink are already tax-free.
