An analysis published on 26 October 2023 entitled ’Three clusters of Salmonella Enteritidis ST11 infections linked to chicken meat and chicken meat products – JOINT ECDC-EFSA RAPID OUTBREAK ASSESSMENT’ by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) and the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) reveals that from January 2023 to 24 October 2023, a total of 335 cases of Salmonella Enteritidis ST11 infections have been confirmed in 14 countries worldwide. An important finding of this report is that the majority of these cases are linked to the consumption of chicken meat. The countries where Salmonella Enteritidis ST11 infections have been registered are Poland, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Slovenia, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the United States.

Polish meat again on target for inspections

During the 2023 national investigations, the competent food safety authorities in Denmark, Austria and Italy presented the results of an examination of 10 samples, which identified seven producers located in Poland and one producer in Austria. The common point of contamination in Denmark, Austria and Italy is chicken meat including chicken kebab.
