Fish as sentient beings – Katowice
On Saturday 16 December, a debate took place in Katowice as part of the Bringing Fish back into the Water project entitled. „Cuisine with Climate – Fish as sentient beings”. The debate featured expert speakers:
Edyta Hyla – a veterinarian by training and passion. Specialist in dog and cat diseases with a surgical specialisation. In love with the world of forests, mountains and the underwater world – she dives. Vegetarian for 30 years with a passion for cooking. Christian. Proud mother of two adult children.
Małgorzata Rusek – a nutritionist by education and passion. She graduated from the Warsaw University of Life Sciences and postgraduate studies in psychodietetics at the SWPS University. In her professional practice she is guided by knowledge based on scientific evidence (Evidence Based Medicine – EBM). She specialises in clinical dietetics (including obesity, insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, Hashimoto’s disease, PCOS, cardiovascular diseases), vegetarian diets and uncontrolled eating.
Szymon Kuś – a native of Tarnogórz, nature lover of small homelands – Silesia and Lesser Poland including the Carpathians, student at the Jagiellonian University and the University of Silesia, naturalist and historian of science, senior chairman of the Ornithology Section of the Naturalists’ Circle of the Jagiellonian University and a member of the board of the Naturalists’ Circle of the Jagiellonian University, in 2023 an employee of the Faculty of Geography and Geology of the Jagiellonian University, co-founder of the Tarnogórzian Treehouse, co-author of the ŚRK manifesto. Conducts scientific activities in the field of zoology, history of zoology and soil science.
Piotr Ziegler – Graduate of the University of Silesia in physics and environmental protection. Lecturer at the Polish School of Dendrology and Arboriculture. Since 2019 a committed climate activist and nature defender. One of the most active activists of the Silesian Climate Movement, in which he leads educational, protest and political actions for mitigation and adaptation to climate change. Environmental and climate educator, vegan. At heart and soul an ecofeminist.
