Premiere of film in Mikołów
We invite you to the Mikołów premiere of the reportage 'Dining on Despair’, which will take place on 29 May (Wednesday) at 5.30 p.m. in the Municipal Public Library in Mikołów!
The film 'Dining on Despair’ is a journey showing from different perspectives: decision-makers, activists, representatives of the world of science and health, parents, the modern food system. These people look at our plates and shop shelves, looking for solutions and pointing out remedial legislative and educational measures, as well as raising the issue of the right of access to safe, healthy, sustainable, plant-based food in educational institutions. 'Dining on Despair’ is an overview of the costs that the food production system and animal agriculture generate today. Costs to public health, such as diseases of civilisation, food poverty, antibiotic resistance, environmental costs, loss of biodiversity, climate costs. Unhealthy, unethical food is a global problem that underpins climate, environmental, social, health catastrophe.
The film premiere will be followed by a discussion with invited guests: decision-makers from the worlds of politics and local government, activism and science, moderated by the ambassadors of green change on a plate, namely Mikolow Plants Yeah, and a tasting of vegan cuisine – refreshments will be prepared by Komu Hummus?
With invited guests and guest speakers, we will discuss climate-friendly solutions at the local level and food system transformation. The starting point for our joint deliberations will be the concept of a blue-green city and the effects of the Mikołów for Climate project, with particular emphasis on the Blue-Green Schools module. We will look for answers to questions such as: what can we (do) – collectively as well as individually – to stop the accelerating climate crisis? Will what’s on our plate be crucial to achieving a sustainable future? What role does education play in shaping the attitudes of younger generations towards climate and food?
