The 1st Civic Brainstorm on Safe Food, organized by the 9twelfth Association, was held in July at the Community Garden, Bialystok. Conclusions and recommendations from those who participated, which focused on the right to know what we eat regarding challenges to a just transition included:

  • Misinformation about plant-based diets and plant-based products, low visibility and
distinctive, inconsistent labeling of vegetarian and vegan products.
    vegan.
  • Resistance by decision-makers to the inclusion of plant-based meals in cafeterias
school cafeterias and bars serving cheap meals, the difficulty of breaking through with
    information about it.
  • Stereotypes about plant-based diets – unsuitable for children, pregnant women,
    lactating, sports people, causing deficiencies.
  • Attachment to traditional meat dishes, especially during celebrations.
  • Lack of education about plant-based foods from an early age.
Solutions? Among others: developing, producing and promoting plant-based versions of traditional products and dishes such as chops, sausage, cured meats, milk; public campaigns on plant-based food, watchdog actions against authorities verifying equal treatment of companies
producing plant-based foods, education of parents and children.
