Following the upcoming meeting of the Agriculture and Fisheries Research Council (AGRIFISH), we have asked the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development to support the inclusion of fish welfare issues in the Common Fisheries Policy. As early as 2021, during the Shanghai Summit, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) pointed out the role and importance of fish welfare as farmed animals for the environment, biodiversity and human health. The inclusion of the issue of the welfare of fish as farmed animals is necessary from the point of view of the growing awareness of citizens about animals, public health issues and environmental protection, and consistent with the objectives of European and national strategies, which are to strive to set a path for the transformation of the food system.
The Agriculture and Fisheries Council (AGRIFISH) will meet in Brussels on June 26, 2023.
