Austria is changing its dietary recommendations

5 sierpnia 2024

At the request of the Austrian Ministry of Health, the Dietary Recommendations have been updated. The new recommendations indicate an increased intake of plant-based products and a reduced intake of animal-based products.

Under the new 'plate models’, it is recommended that 50% of the diet should consist of fruit and vegetables, 25% of whole grain products and potatoes, and the remaining 25% should consist mainly of plant-based proteins.

The new recommendations took into account both health aspects and food sustainability. In developing the guidelines, consideration was given to the fact that food of animal origin produces a significant carbon footprint compared to food of plant origin.
