Brainstorm – summary of the event in Łódź

14 stycznia 2025

The Civic Brainstorm for Future Gardens took place on 10 January 2025 at the Centre for Ecological Activities ‘Sources’ in Łódź. The event brought together teachers, experts, the activist side and representatives of local authorities to discuss how to introduce green spaces into Polish schools and realise their educational, integrative and therapeutic potential.
The meeting discussed examples of successful school gardens from Poland and abroad, such as Phoenix Farm or White City Farm, which inspire action and demonstrate the importance of involving the whole community in such projects. Participants shared experiences, presented their ideas and engaged in a discussion about the challenges and opportunities of creating such spaces.
The event emphasised that school gardens are more than places for learning – they are spaces that build connections, develop creativity and teach environmental responsibility.
Together, the concept of the after-school garden as a place that not only educates, but also promotes social integration and fosters environmental attitudes was developed. This event showed that school gardens can become a real standard in Polish schools, giving children space to learn through practice, develop empathy and understand the processes taking place in nature.
The event was organised with the support of the Green REV Institute as part of the ‘Plant School’ initiative. We would like to thank all participants for their engagement, inspiring conversations and shared vision of green education.
