EC priorities without repairing the food system?

8 sierpnia 2024

On 18 July, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, starting her second term, presented the ’Political Guidelines for the next European Commission term 2024-2029’. The document takes into account food security issues, but does not directly address food system reform.

The document emphasises the importance of European agriculture and healthy local food, while highlighting the challenges faced by farmers. However, it lacks reference to the repair of the food system and the climatic, environmental and health benefits of producing and consuming plant-based food compared to animal-based products.
