Green REV Institute appeals to the new EU Commissioner.
On the 16th, the Green REV Institute, together with partners of the Future Food 4 Climate Coalition, addressed an open letter to the newly appointed EU Commissioner for Agriculture and Food, Christophe Hansen. The letter was supported by more than 90 civil society organisations. In the letter, the organisations stress that the right to healthy, ethical and sustainable food is a fundamental human right. They also point to the need for urgent action to transform the European food system.
The letter highlights the serious risks associated with the operation of factory farms in Poland and other EU countries. The organisations draw attention to their detrimental impact on public health, the environment, animal rights and food security.
Green REV Institute and partners urge the new Commissioner to identify concrete steps to protect the health of consumers, the environment and wildlife. The letter highlights the need to redirect support away from the livestock sector within the Common Agricultural Policy and to promote sustainable plant-based food.
