Public consultation – forced feeding

19 maja 2023

Only until today (19 May 2023 at 24:00) can opinions be submitted as part of the European Commission’s public consultation ’Poultry – Review of marketing standards’.

The Green REV Institute has already submitted its position in which it has clearly called for the removal of the minimum liver weight requirement for the livers of ducks and geese used for foie gras production. At the same time, we point out that force-feeding is already banned in 22 EU countries.

Force-feeding is an extremely brutal process, causing suffering to animals. At the same time, the EC itself, in its working document 'Drivers for food security’, points out that a reduction in meat consumption by EU citizens is essential for health concerns, but also for climate, biodiversity and food security.
