The vote on the European Protein Strategy will take place in September in the EP Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development (AGRI). Among the amendments, there is also a call for the European Commission to adopt the Plant Based Treaty – page 213 in the European Protein Strategy. The amendment was proposed by MEP Anja Hazekamp.

As many as 716 amendments were tabled before the vote in the AGRI Committee. According to available sources, the European Commission is expected to review the European Protein Strategy in the first quarter of 2024.

The European Protein Strategy is important insofar as it provides an opportunity to raise the profile of the transition to a sustainable food system, i.e. one that is based on plant-based protein. This will have a positive impact on the climate, biodiversity, will also reduce soil, water and air pollution and will have a positive impact on the worsening climate crisis.
